Congratulations to Women of 10 week Chocolate Challenge…
our Grand Prize Winner is…..
WOW what a journey and adventure it has been to the women who stayed the course for the 10 weeks of health from the inside out….it was a true privilege to witness you in the process and to read all of your final essays on what you learned about yourself. Many times moved to tears to hear your learning, insights and personal triumphs and stories. I believe you are ALL winners of this challenge and having to choose one was a difficult decision for that reason. I am reminded of how much can happen on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level in a 10 week period. This was such a success that PURE is ecstatic and excited to offer another 10 weeks starting Monday September 14th. It will be a new and improved version based on feedback from the participants as well as our observations as facilitators of the process. Some new additions will be incorporating David Wolfe’s philosophy, books and materials that focus on longevity and beauty. We will also be doing as a group a focus on a total body cleanse together during the 10 weeks. We will host a weekly seminar on various topics and themes related to beauty and longevity for women.

The Celebration of the end of the First 10 Week Lifestyle Challenge for Women Who Love Chocolate and the beginning of my Next 10 Week Challenge….
YAY!!!! I want to sing this out loud, over and over again! I am so happy I made the choice to enter this challenge…who would have thought it was possible to feel this great after only 10 weeks? Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!
What an amazing experience this has been, so much so, that I have decided to just keep going. For me this is the end of the first ten weeks and the beginning of the second ten weeks and so on and so on….I want to exercise longer, eat cleaner, cleanse more, and go deeper into the spiritual exploration of what this feels like for my beautiful heart, mind and body. I like how my body feels and I know it’s just going to keep getting better and better. My body has changed shape; I have lost weight: 12lbs! And 12 inches! I am stronger, I feel sexy and I have more energy. I am more flexible, I am more fun to be around, I actually want to exercise and look forward to the burst of energy and vitality I feel during and afterwards.
It also hasn’t all been easy. Quitting coffee freaking sucked! I had headaches for 5 days and felt like I had been hit by a train and given a concentrated injection of Super-Bitch. I spent 5 days weaning myself and then stopped it altogether. BUT now I feel awesome! The payoff was HUGE and I have way more energy than I did before. I am sleeping better at night, am happier and most importantly I feel good about what I accomplished. I have the strength and determination to do anything and I did it for MY health and MY body and as a result my mental health, confidence and the belief that I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO DO ANYTHING has absolutely been solidified.
Before, I was a “most of the time, mostly organic vegetarian” who really didn’t eat a whole lot of fruit and veggies and lived on dairy and grains and coffee. By paying attention to my body and how I felt after I ate, I learned some cool things and as a result have totally changed my eating habits. I learned I often felt emotional and teary for one or two days after eating wheat. I know that alcohol interferes with my ability to sleep through the night. Caffeine (especially in coffee) is a form of false short term energy that actually depletes my energy stores, interferes with my sleep, makes me bitchy and irritable, and makes my very bones ache. Dairy (especially cheese) turns my body into a booger factory and is very addictive too. Once I quit eating and drinking these things, an amazing thing happened, I stopped 90% of the cravings I had for sugar, cheese and coffee and actually started craving spinach and dark greens! I NEVER would have believed this possible had I not experienced it firsthand.
Now I actually eat fruits and vegetables every day. Instead of coffee and toast in the morning, I have a green smoothie with blue green algae and lots of fruit and I have more energy than when I used to rely on caffeine to get me kick started. I have increased my water intake. I am sleeping better at night and am way less irritable (just ask my partner or my kids).
I was so horrified to read stories of the kill floor and realized how far I had my head up my ass when it came to my “sometimes” diet of meat. It’s important for me to know where my food is coming from, how it’s being harvested and if that sits ok with my ethics. Bottom line is it’s not ok for me to eat an animal that has been subjected to the treatment I now know truly exists or to put all those pesticides and chemicals into my body, and continue to poison my temple. Clean food, clean energy = clean body, clean health.
I have decided to continue my lifestyle challenge by continuing to exercise, and by continuing to “eat clean”. I have embarked on my next 10 weeks of clean eating already. I am still eating vegan, wheat free, dairy free, no coffee, only clean sugars AND have decided to eat this way for 6 days of every week with the option of eating wheat or dairy or seafood on the 7th day IF I choose. I will also be eating only 3 times a day and will stop eating snacks in-between and will not eat after 7pm at night to train my metabolism to “learn when to burn” and balance my leptin hormones and blood sugars. I am taking a month long break from cleansing and will then do the apple-juice, psyllium husk and bentonite clay cleanse again. Thanks again to Mandy for her invaluable seminar on cleansing and to Twyla for the info on nutrition and acid/base foods.
My goals for exercising are right on track and I don’t want to stop. Exercising now feels like a treat for my body. I use positive affirmations when I exercise, repeating things like “I am strong, relaxed and injury-free” and “I love myself enough to take this next step” whenever I need a boost. Running has become another movement meditation for me, like dance, and I am able to blissfully slide into that clear space of just being…feeling blood pumping, heart beating, and lungs expanding and contracting, mind clear and full of awareness and appreciation. I love living in my body, rejoicing in the power and strength of my muscular arms and legs, lean and lithe and vibrating with energy. As my physical health has improved, so has my mental and spiritual health.
My ultimate athletic goal when I started this challenge was to run at the World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia in October 09 and to finish feeling strong, happy and injury free. As part of my goals leading up to this, I took part in the 5km Little Big Run with Team Pure Potential Powerhouses and have one race under my belt. It was a great learning experience for me to finish feeling like I had go-go juice left to give and now know I can run faster next time. I have registered to run in the Moose is Loose on July 19/09 and will do the 10 km this time and have been running in the river valley getting used to and appreciating trail running. It is my goal to do at least 2 more 10km races after this next one before the World Masters.
I have set up mini-goals and rewards when I accomplish them. At each race I get to purchase a tech-type workout shirt to remember my journey and before the Masters I will buy a new pair of running shoes. Grand Prize….Australia!!! Participating in a world class race with elite athletes and traveling for 2 blissful weeks afterwards, with my partner and without our 4 kids, for the first time in 11 years! Motivation? You betcha!
For the 10 Week Challenge, I chose to do Lindsay’s outdoor group exercise on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I loved exercising in this group of fabulous fun women all supporting and cheering one another on. Lindsay was awesome, knowing when to challenge me and when to encourage me. I can still hear her yelling “Coooome oooooonnnn Louisa, you can do it!” and feel the burst of energy those words inspired as I faced the last half of the last flight of stairs. I have signed up for Lindsay’s next 6 weeks of “Boot Camp” and have been bringing friends and family to check it out too. I also plan on attending Linda’s Core Fusion lunchtime classes as often as I can and so appreciate her energy and encouragement, especially during the last 15 seconds of every ab-building exercise. All I can say is thank the goddess for these two women and hallefreakinglujah for my hot tub!
My rewards are multiple and varied. I am able to dance for hours without getting tired, like I used to and I LOVE this. I am having more fun with my partner, my kids, my family and friends. I am sleeping better. I have way more energy, confidence, and vitality. My skin has cleared up, my eyes have come alive again, my body smells better and I am flexible and pain free. I feel good about my body and confident to try new things and continually challenge myself. Testosterone boys at the gym don’t even freak me out anymore!
With my new confidence, I recently joined Team Edmonton’s “Flaming Dragon’s” Dragon Boat co-ed racing team and have been having a blast. Talk about an upper body and core strength workout! We will be practicing 2 times a week starting this Wednesday until the festival Aug 21-23/09 so that makes 4 nights a week of outdoor exercise with an optional 2 indoor Core classes per week and running 3 times a week!
One of the things I have been dealing with since the beginning of April is that I am being laid off from my job June 30th. I have been able to not only stay positive about this change but look at it as an opportunity to create an amazing job for myself and transition to a happier, healthier future. My new lifestyle and the desire to respect my total health, body, mind and emotion, played a big part in creating a job that supports me in all ways. This wouldn’t have been a priority for me in the past as I often would sacrifice health for work. This was apparent even in the first few weeks of the challenge when I was missing my workouts because I was putting my job before my health. Thanks Linda for the motivational kick in the ass to get my priorities back in order!6 months ago this news would have devastated my self worth and confidence. I truly believe my increased mental health as a result of PURE’s 10 Week Challenge has helped me get to this place.
Each week when I step inside the studio at PURE, painted in warm earthy tones and resonating with clear vibrant energy, I have felt more and more at home. The weekly emails, the seminars, the links to educational sites and videos, the encouraging words, hi-fives and giant smiles celebrating each teeny tiny step along the way have all been so appreciated. To Linda, Lindsay, Twyla, Mandy and all the other fabulous women participating in the challenge, thank you, you have been my inspiration and motivation. I can’t wait to see you all on the 30th!
Sweating, stinking, laughing, crying, puking, cheering, swearing, absent, struggling, celebrating and loving life….we did it! Woohooo!!! Thank you for your support and love.
Blessings, big hugs and dark chocolate to you sisters, Louisa
And by the way, I WILL be that old woman who just keeps on dancing and dancing and dancing….
CALL PURE TODAY TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR WHAT PROMISES TO BE AN INCREDIBLE 10 WEEK JOURNEY STARTING SEPTEMBER 14TH – 780-454-7873!
Sincerely, Linda
